I have never been sedated for any of my colonoscopies. Every time, I have had at least one polyp removed (I watch them do it on the screen) and I have never had any pain. A sigmoidoscopy only looks at the sigmoid colon. If you have masses or polyps in the sigmoid colon, it is likely you also have them in other parts of the colon. You're going to have a baby. The discomfort of the colonoscopy is far less that labor pains and it will give you practice for panting to relief the pain.
